Kiwis in the kitchen for Ronald McDonald House
Last night some Medtronic New Zealand staff donated their time, energy and cooking skills, by making and serving dinner for 45 people at Ronald McDonald House (Grafton Mews). This is a charity that provides housing facilities near Auckland’s Starship Children’s’ Hospital for the families of sick children from across New Zealand.
It was a humbling experience for the team, with families giving them an insight into their experiences while at Ronald McDonald House. One young father recognised the ‘Medtronic’ logo on the groups T-Shirts as the manufacturer of his daughter pacemaker she received just three days ago. This was surgery number 29 for his little girl and, as we know, will be one part of her therapy for the rest of her life. Other stories gave a feeling for those living there through the many months of chemotherapy treatment.
Once per week volunteers cook a “Family Dinner” for the families, as a break from them finding the energy and enthusiasm for cooking for themselves.
A big thank you to all our volunteers!
