Medtronic Recognised for Excellence in Corporate Citizenship

MINNEAPOLIS – March 7, 2011 – Medtronic, Inc. was named to the 12th annual “100 Best Corporate Citizens” list published by Corporate Responsibility magazine, which is recognized as one of the nation’s top corporate responsibility rankings based on publicly-available information. Ranking 66th, Medtronic moved up 11 spots from its 2010 position.

Rankings are based on more than 360 data points that align with five social responsibility elements, which include environment, human rights, employee relations, philanthropy, and financial and corporate governance.

“We are very pleased with the ongoing recognition of our citizenship efforts,” said Bill Hawkins, Medtronic chair and CEO. “Operating as a good corporate citizen has been part of Medtronic’s mission from the very beginning, as we employ many of the company assets to maximize social value. Our upward movement on the 100 Best Corporate Citizens List acknowledges our continued progress.”

Additional 2010 recognitions include appearing on the Dow Jones Sustainability Index (North America); FTSE4Good Index; Newsweek’s Green Rankings (ranked 37th), and Forbes America’s Most Reputable Companies (ranked 57th).
