Medtronic Donates USD$50,000 to Christchurch Earthquake

25 February 2011
In response to the devastating earthquake in Christchurch, New Zealand, the Medtronic Foundation is donating USD$50,000 to the New Zealand Red Cross.
The 6.3 earthquake hit Christchurch’s city centre just before 1 p.m. on Tuesday, February 22. All Medtronic staff in Christchurch are reported safe, but family and friends of employees in New Zealand and Australia have been affected, with the central business district completely shut down and businesses and schools declared closed.
The USD$50,000 grant will be used to support multiple Red Cross evacuation centres and provide immediate basic-needs relief to those affected.
In addition, employees who wish to volunteer time to help in relief efforts may be able to take advantage of Medtronic’s Disaster Relief Paid-Leave Volunteer Program , which offers up to five paid days off to volunteer for disaster relief and recovery.
