National Youth Ambassadors for Health Research Awards Test their Spinal Surgery Skills at Medtronic

14 December 2010

The two winners of the 2010 National Youth Ambassadors for Health Research award, Andrew Haselgrove and Michael Wallace, returned to their home state of Queensland exhausted after a whirlwind visit to Sydney in late November, where they attended the official awards ceremony to collect their respective prizes.

The awards were held at Government House, hosted by the Governor of New South Wales, Professor Marie Bashir AC, CVO, who congratulated the boys personally for their entries.

As major sponsor of the awards, we were keen to show the boys what role medical technology plays in so many people’s lives around the world.

So the following day Andrew and Michael visited Medtronic where they were taken on a tour of the premises, which included an overview of our products and how these products have improved or even saved peoples lives. They also gained first hand experience performing delicate spinal surgery techniques in our training centre spinal labs.

What’s next for Andrew and Michael? The priority for now is probably enjoying their summer break and recuperating from hectic end-of-year assessments!
