Media Release: Student Challenge on Medical Technology

8 June 2010

From Research Australia:

Australian high school students have been issued the challenge of predicting the impact of medical technology on health.

Research Australia’s 2010 National Youth Ambassador Program is exploring the implications of innovation and emerging technologies on today’s generation of teenagers.

Research Australia CEO, Rebecca James, said the Research Australia National Youth Ambassador program aims to communicate the importance of science and health research to young people and to encourage middle school students to consider taking up a career in science.

Year 9 and 10 students this year are able to enter through essay or YouTube video submission.

“We hope that YouTube submissions will attract students who aren’t normally inclined to sciences and enlighten them of the possibilities this sector holds” said Rebecca James.

The ideas generated through the program will be presented to state and federal governments, research organisations, academic institutions, media and business.

State winners will be teamed up with scientists to find out more about careers in research and health.

Information about the Research Australia National Youth Ambassador and entry details are available at www.researchaustralia.org or on the Youth Ambassador for Health Research Facebook page.

The National and State winners will be announced in August during National Science Week.
